Mei became exhausted and dozed off , fi tfully.
While Ming was stimulated by the outside world and the fascination of taking the fi rst train in his life.
By four o’clock, the rays of sunlight spread over the center of their bodies. Mei was woken by the dragging sound of a full trolley accompanying a yelling voice from one carriage to another, “Does anyone fancy a Haggen Dazs ice cream? A fresh coff ee? Milk? Drinks? Fruits or snacks?”
Ming slept hugging himself. The previous old man had gone mysteriously. She found herself sitting next to a young woman with long boots, dyed curly hair and fashioned nails. Her pretty face with light make-up freshly reminded Mei of her youth that was much too short. Then suddenly it announced, ‘The train is approaching Fu’an Station, the terminus of the line. Please leave with all your belongings.’ Mei patted Ming’s shoulder, saying, “Wake up! Be prepared to get off the train.”
